Obituary for Carellen Coltren

Carellen Maness Coltren, 76, of the Brocks Chapel community near Mount Olive, died Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Vidant Pitt Hospital in Greenville.


She is survived by her husband, Dallas Coltren of Mount Olive; a son; Ricky Dallas Coltren of Mount Olive; her daughters, Brenda Lee Phillips, Tracy Barwick, Sarah Coltren and fiancee’, Darren Goodman, and Amber Holmes all of Mount Olive; eleven grandchildren, Crissann Coltren, Joshua Phillips, Brittney Coltren, Scarlet Kelly, Dallas Barwick, Matthew Coltren, Autumn Goodman, Carlee Barwick, Logan Goodman, Mason Holmes, and Brokklyn Holmes; and eight great-grandchildren.

Carellen was preceded in death by her parents, Gaston and Lula Mae Mathis Maness; a brother Harry Lee Maness; and a son in law, Nelson Barwick.

A service to celebrate Carellen’s Life will be held on Thursday, October 24, at 6 p.m. , in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home, Mount Olive. Pastors Jason Watford and Stanley Kelly will officiate, with visitation following. The family will also receive at the home of her daughter, Tracy Barwick on Summerlin’s Crossroads Road, Mount Olive.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the children’s ministry at Spring Creek Baptist Church, 3177 Indian Springs Road, Seven Springs, NC 28578.

Carellen was a devoted member of Spring Creek Church, where she loved serving and teaching the children. She had also assisted in the church's bus ministry and had taught in its daycare program. She, too, had worked with the county schools as a teacher’s assistant for several years, and had also worked in the Base Exchange at Seymour Johnson Air Base.
