Obituary for Carlton Gerald Sullivan

Carlton Gerald Sullivan, 76, of the Rhodes community near Mount Olive, passed away Friday morning, January11, 2019 at N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Gerald, a career car salesman primarily associated with Roy Jones Pontiac in Kinston, and later, Kinston Chrysler, was an avid gardener, particularly known for his large peaches. In earlier years, he had served with the United States Air Force and the N.C. National Guard and had been an officer with the Mount Olive Police Department. One who enjoyed music, he was a member of the Harmony Boys, a blue-grass gospel singing group from Mount Olive, for which he played the harmonica.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 16, at 2 p.m. from Rhodes Friends Meeting, officiated by Minister Carroll Overman and Minister Coy Brock, followed by burial at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, at Tyndall Funeral Home, and at other times, at the home he shared with his mother. Gerald is survived by his very special fiance and friend of many years, Donna Westbrook, of Grifton; his beloved mother, Virginia Bryan Sullivan of the home; three sons, Carlton Gerald "Junior" Sullivan, Jr. of Swansboro, Anthony Keith Sulllivan of Sacramento, Calif., and William Gregory Sullivan; three step-daughters, Peggy Fountain Sollars of Midlothian, Va., Tracy Pope Rojas of Chicago, Ill., and Kimberly Pope of Durham; his siblings, Karen Sullivan Reaves of Mount Olive, Wayne Sullivan and wife, Mary, of Goldsboro, Rita Sullivan Long and husband, Billy, of Mount Olive, and Jeanette Sullivan Bonthuis and husband, Tom, of Mount Olive; thirteen grandchildren, Kayla, Jennifer, Benjamin, Brandon, Izabel, Zackery, Emma, Hunter, Lucas, Joshua, Lexi, Dustin, and Caroline; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Last but certainly not least, he leaves behind "Fuji," a beloved Dachshund who was another of "Daddy's boys."

He was preceded in death by his father, John Lawrence Sullivan and a brother-in-law, Jerry Reaves.
