Obituary for Edward Earl Hudson

Edward Earl Hudson, known to most as either “Ed,” Barney,” or “Bossman” passed away early Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at his home. A resident of the Snow Hill Church area of Duplin County near Mount Olive, he was 83 years of age.

Born in Greene County, his law enforcement career began with Grifton Police Department where he served for three years. Career opportunities brought him and his family to the Mount Olive area upon his joining the Mount Olive Police Department, from which he retired with 21 years of service. He was also employed with Mt. Olive Pickle Company where he was supervisor of sanitation and security, serving for 31 years. In his retirement, he continued to work in security at Carolina Turkeys, now known as Butterball. He had served in the N. C. National Guard as well.

Mr. Hudson is survived by his wife, Shirley Branch Hudson, of the home; a daughter, Pat Hudson Kornegay of Mount Olive; a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Stephanie Hudson of Mount Olive; a son-in-law, Ricky Wood and wife, Crystal, of Mount Olive; seven grandchildren, Melinda Wood Torres, Brittni Wood Fields, Kacey Wood Carr, Kayla Kornegay Quinn, Kelly Kornegay, Hunter Hudson, and Heather Hudson; great-grandchildren, Devin and Jake Torres, Bella Carr, Emmit Stiles, Maddie Quinn, and Jolee Quinn; three sisters, Frances Hardy of Ayden, Katherine “Pete” Wiggins of Morehead City, and Susie Budgett of Cameron, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynda Hudson Wood; a newborn baby; and his parents, Edward Saul Hudson and Carrie Mae Cannon Hudson.

The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, November 2. Funeral services will be held at Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 3. Pastor Mark Hobbs will officiate with personal remarks being shared by John Whitfield. Burial will then be in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial gifts be made to Snow Hill Church, c/o Jenean Kennedy, 1571 Red Hill Road, Mount Olive, NC 28365, or Retirement Home Ministry of the Original Free Will Baptist Church, PO Box 39, Ayden, NC 28513.

A loving husband, daddy, papa, brother, neighbor, and friend he has been. Truly he was our sunshine, and we were his!
