Obituary for Jack Dempsey Lane

Jack Dempsey Lane, 75, of the Grantham community, passed away early Thursday morning, October 17, 2019 at Wake Medical Center.

Raised in Mount Olive, he graduated from Mount Olive High School in 1962 and attended Miller-Motte Business School. Employed in textiles for his working career with the majority spent at StevcoKnit in Wallace, where he lived with his young family, he then relocated with his family to Rock Hill, SC and gained employed with Ava’s in Rock Hill. Jack was a long time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and worshipped with the Mount Olive ward. He had been a loyal volunteer with the local rescue squad.

Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, Kay Johnson Lane, to whom he was married for 38 years; an infant son, Jon Douglas Lane; his parents, Dempsey and Grace Cox Lane; and a sister, Reba Jean Lane.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Glenda Jones Lane, of the home; two daughters, Marjorie Lane Britt and husband, Ronnie, of Mount Olive, and Meredith Lane Cross and husband, Robert, of Swansboro; a step-son, Raymond Overman and wife, Jenny, of Fort Mill, SC; three grandchildren, Anna Aaron, Katherine Tyson Overman, and Charlotte Emily Overman; a great-grandson, Thomas Aaron; a sister, Janice Lane of Indiana; and a brother, Jerry Lane and wife, Brenda, of Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, October 20, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 21, at 3 p.m. from the Mount Olive ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with burial following in Maplewood Cemetery.
