Obituary for Linda Rivenbark Teachey

Linda Rivenbark Teachey of Mount Olive, NC passed away October 19, 2019 after fighting a battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was the daughter of Dorothy Teachey Rivenbark of Rose Hill, and the late Sam Rivenbark She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Leonard Teachey and sister, Jeri Ellen Bradshaw.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Barwick and husband Ricky and Deborah Shivar and husband Phil; three grandchildren, Hope Shivar Shaeffer and husband Chuck, Matthew Shivar and Cody Wendorf; one step granddaughter Christina Wendorf and husband Ritchie Carr; a brother J. F. Bud Rivenbark and wife Donna; three nieces, Jill Ezzell, Giner Henderson, and Jaleigh Henderson. She also had many nieces and nephews of the Teachey family.

Linda graduated from Wallace Rose Hill High School and obtained her Registry in Medical and X-Ray Technology in Ashville, NC, her Associate degree at Mount Olive College and her BS in Medical Technology at Campbell University.

Linda worked for Mount Olive Family Medicine Center for many years and retired from Caswell Developmental Center in Kinston as Director of the Laboratory and X-Ray Departments. She was a long-time member of the State Employee Association of NC American Association of Bio Analysts. She was a former EMT and CPR instructor with the American Heart Association and on the Phlebotomy Advisory Committee at Wayne Community College. She also taught biology labs one day per week at Mt. Olive College for a number of years.

Linda was a former member of the Alumni Board at the University of Mount Olive and a former member of the decorating committee for the State Employees Association of North Carolina.

Linda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Olive and was active on many committees.

Linda enjoyed everything in life and loved to take on projects. She enjoyed going to her cabin in the mountains near Hillsville, VA and cooking for her mountain neighbors and working in the yard. She especially enjoyed her many trips to Europe and loved to read. She loved being with her friends, but most of all with her two daughters and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Christian Life Center at First Baptist Church of Mount Olive on Tuesday, October 22, beginning at Noon, with lunch provided for all those in attendance. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m.in the church sanctuary with Dr. Dennis Atwood officiating, followed by burial in Maplewood Cemetery.
