Obituary for Sarah Jordan Tyner

Sarah Jordan Tyner, Mount Olive resident, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 27, at Wayne Hospital. She was 85 years of age.

Born and raised in Sampson County near Newton Grove, she was one of nine children. Her late parents were Grover Cleveland Jordan and Annie Reaves Jordan. She was married to Virgil Lee Tyner, a Keener native, and much of their married life was lived in Maryland. In the mid 1980's, they returned to Mount Olive were they operated the V & S Grocery Store on Church Street. She was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Tyner is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Connie T. Keeney of Frederick, Md., Elizabeth T. and David Hopkins of Fort Mill, SC, and Sandra T. and Donnie Howard of Mount Olive; three sisters, Virginia J. Myers and Ruby J. Kornegay, both of Mount Olive, and Judy J. Goode of Grantham; two brothers, Perry Jordan of Rocky Mount, and Jimmy Jordan of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Dawn H. McFarland, Eric Hood, Jonathan Hopkins, Rachel Ryan, Brian Howard, and Naomi Howard; and great grandchildren, Zoe Hopkins, Elaina Howard, Ellie McFarland, Annie Hood, and Noel Hood.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son in law, Michael Keeney; a great-grandson, Alex Hopkins; a brother, Grover C. Jordan, Jr; and sisters, Verna Jordan, Betty J. Mozingo, and Geraldine J. Darden.

Her family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home on Saturday, March 2, beginning at 1 p.m. with services to follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jeff Bartlett will officiate. The service will commence with burial in Maplewood Cemetery.
