Obituary for The Rev. Richard "Dick" Farmer Lewis

The Rev. Richard Farmer Lewis, Sr., 79, known to many as “Dick,” resident of Calypso, N.C. went to his heavenly reward Monday evening, July 22, 2019 while he was being cared for at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

The Lewis family will be receiving friends at Tyndall Funeral Home on Thursday, July 25, beginning at 12:30 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Officiating in the service will be Pastors Ken Davenport, Jerry Sheffield, and Ralph Brown, and Rev. Dr. Gary Southern. The service will commence with interment being in the Calypso Cemetery.
Flowers will be warmly appreciated, or memorial gifts may be made to University of Mount Olive, 634 Henderson Street, Mount Olive, N.C. 28365.

Born in Calypso to the late Edward “Ed” R. Lewis and Sallie Farmer Lewis, he had been a minister with the United Methodist Church, serving for over 52 years in many churches in eastern North Carolina. He was a graduate of N.C. Wesleyan College, Duke Seminiary, and Southeastern Theological College at Wake Forest University.

The Rev. Lewis is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Jo Ann Dail Lewis, of the home; three children and their spouses, Richard Farmer Lewis, Jr. and Lisa Lewis of Lexington, SC, Ralph Michael “Mike” Lewis Lewis and Ann Lewis of Harker’s Island, and Amy Lewis Evans and Barry Evans of Kenansville; beloved grandchildren, Jonathan Lewis and wife, Kelsey, Ryan Lewis, Sidney Lewis, Annsley Lewis, and Matthew Evans; two great-grandchildren, Ella Lewis and Noah Lewis; a sister and brother-in-law, Meg Lewis Reaves and Tom Reaves of Calypso; a sister-in-law, Hilda Sutton Lewis of Dunn, widow of deceased brother, Edward R. Lewis, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.
