Obituary for William Eugene Sasser

William Eugene “Gene” Sasser, 72, resident of the Rones Chapel community near Mount Olive, passed away peacefully at home Thursday evening, Feb. 14, with family and friends surrounding him.

Gene was a native of the Indian Springs community near Seven Springs and was the son of the late Raymond E. and Lola V. Hardy Sasser. He was a poultry farmer and was known for his involvement in his community. He participated in parades by riding his wagon and showed animals in the local county fair.

Gene is survived by his wife, Susie Holmes Sasser, of the home; two sons, CAPT. William Eugene “Billy” Sasser, Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Mobile, Alabama, and Christopher Eugene “Chris” Sasser and wife, Amie, of Seven Springs; six grandchildren, Camber Beck and husband, 1st Lt. Drew Beck of Hawaii, Cadet 2nd Class Hayden Sasser of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Darcy Grace Sasser and Liam Sasser, both of Mobile, and Luke Sasser and Mercy Sasser, both of Seven Springs; a brother, Robert L. Sasser and wife, Theresa, of Warsaw; three sisters, Violet S. Goodson and husband, Kermit, of Mount Olive, Linda S. Kearney and husband, Russell, and Brenda S. Bazemore and husband, Ted, all of Goldsboro; and many very special nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

The Sasser family gives grateful appreciation to his caregiver, Pat Anderson, and to the Community Hospice team for their splendid care and support given to Gene and to his family during his final days. They also express thanks to their family and many friends who have stepped in at various times to assist in countless ways.

Gene’s life was remembered in a service at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 16, at Tyndall Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Dail officiating. Friends were received at the residence at other times. Memorial gifts may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 5171 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 101 Raleigh, NC 27612

While we are saddened by our loss, we also rejoice in the fact that Gene has been freed from the bonds of Alzheimer’s and can now rest in eternal peace with every lost memory restored.

A Tyndall service.
