Obituary for Ben M. Colson

Benjamin Morgan (Ben) Colson, 91, Mount Olive resident, went to meet his Lord Sunday afternoon, April 15, 2018.

Born in Pinetops to farming parents, Omer and Lillian Colson, he was one of their five children. After high school graduation, he married his high school sweetheart. During World War II, he served in the United States Army.

Upon his return, he and his wife made Greensboro their home, where they raised their children. Employed with Texaco, retiring after 31 years of devoted service, he and his family were members of Hinshaw Memorial Methodist Church in Greensboro where he served as Sunday school teacher, deacon, and was a member of the choir.

In recent years, he, his wife, and son relocated to Mount Olive to be near his daughter and her family. Here, he became a member of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Colson is survived by his wife of over 73 years, Edna Webb Colson, of the home; a daughter, Lynn Colson Dail of Mount Olive; two grandchildren, Tracy Dail Teal and husband, Jeff, of Creedmoor, and Jason Dail and wife, Amber, of Chinquapin; and four great-grandchildren, Colson Teal, Chase Teal, Jayden Dail and Avery Dail.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Clifton Colson; a son-in-law, James Clark Dail; two brothers; and two sisters.

Mr. Colson’s life will be remembered in a service to be held Wednesday, April 18, at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Tim Snyder will officiate, with family remembrances to be shared by grandson Jason Dail. Following the service, the family will remain in the sanctuary to receive friends. At other times, they will be at the home of Lynn Dail. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, PO Box 158, Mount Olive, NC 28365, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Remembering Mr. Colson for his loving spirit and kind-heartedness while he was among us, that notion of generosity followed him in death as he lovingly bequeathed his body to medical research at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

A Tyndall Service.
